My husband and I are heading to Cancun!! After our big news, of another baby on the way, we decided to grab some 'couple' time before it was too late!
Of course, it's never easy to leave Gabe & Kenya for any length of time, but this may well be the only kid-free time we see for a long time! We are quite excited about the trip - we leave August 5th - and will be posting some photos here when we get back.
BTW, did you know that there is a new term to describe this pre-baby vacation? People are calling it a "babymoon". Check out what Wikipedia says!!
The term has come to be used to describe a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby. Babymoons usually take place at a resort that offers appropriate services like prenatal massage.
Did you take a babymoon before your first baby, or between them?

In a recent press release, I talk about how fans can contribute to the sleep of your baby - by beating the heat and by using the benefits of white noise. Here's my press release on the topic:
How Fans do More Than Keep Your Kids Cool in the Summer
Research shows that fans that create white noise help infants sleep and cut down on sudden infant death syndrome
With the recent scorching temperatures across the country, when it comes to infant or toddler sleeping problems, having a fan in the room during the hot summer months does more than keep them cool. It creates an environment that helps children fall asleep, something that all parents and children can benefit from.
“Having a fan or a natural noise sleeping product in the room can be very beneficial. Not only do they keep cool but white noise creates a monotonous sound that will block out other noises and create a nice ambience for your baby or child to fall asleep to. It’s especially good if you live in a noisy house, or have dogs barking in your neighbourhood and according to research, it may also reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome,” says Dawnn Whittaker, an expert sleep consultant and parenting coach.
As most parents know, sleep is important, and if the overall quality of sleep is poor, it can be reflected in the parent and the child’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being. With all the extra activities and stimulation families have in the summer months, employing white noise, or comforting ocean or wind sounds at night, can be of great benefit to their overall rest.
“If the forecast says it won’t be going below 20 or 15 degrees Celsius, nobody in the family gets much sleep without a fan or some form of air conditioning. There is no singular plan that you can use repeatedly to ensure your infant or child’s solid sleep in this type of weather, because you are working with behaviour; however in my experience, there are certainly simple methods that you can employ to help you cope when you feel overwhelmed,” says Whittaker.

I am always so happy to have made an impact on a family's life - for them to pass on
my name to other families is like getting an extra 'thank you' for my work. So, it's time to return that favor!
For the month of August, I'm sending out a token of my thanks to clients who have passed on my name to other parents in need of more sleep.
New clients fill out a questionnaire about their baby, their goals and about how they heard of my services. So, if I have seen your name in one of those boxes, keep an eye on your mailbox in the next few weeks for a little gift!
If you haven't yet, there's still time to pass on my name to some of your friends who are struggling to get their baby or toddler to sleep (and stay asleep!)...

I'm very happy to announce a new sleep product on sale here at Cheeky Chops. The Guardian Sleeper is a single-piece blanket and positioner that keeps your baby on his back and snuggled tight. The product can help reduce the risk of SIDS and help babies with reflux.
The Guardian Sleeper is a great alternative to swaddling, giving baby the opportunity to learn how to use his arms but still giving him the tight snuggly feel of a swaddled blanket. This can help baby sleep longer at night.
Many newborns have the ability to roll, to kick off their covers or to get stuck against the crib bars. The Guardian Sleeper comes with a positioner to keep baby on his back - an important aspect of SIDS prevention.
If your baby has reflux, your baby probably has trouble sleeping on a flat mattress. The Guardian Sleeper allows for angling the crib while keeping baby from slipping down.
This great item is pediatrician & obstetrician approved and won the 2008 Top Choice Award from Creative Mom Magazine. The Guardian Sleeper is sold at Cheeky Chops in the bassinet and in a variety of materials and colours. Check it out here.
P.S. For those following along with my big news, the pregnancy is going well, I heard a healthy heartbeat yesterday and 2 kicks although still waiting to feel some movement. I will be resuming in-home visits now. Don't forget about our 10% off deal!!
